ATI Radeon HD 4830 phased out

Posted on Thursday, March 19 2009 @ 00:32:03 CET by

FUD Zilla found out ATI has send out the last batch of Radeon HD 4830 GPUs, and some partners didn't even want it because the RV740 will soon kick the 4830's ass. The RV740 will be a cheap card, it's expect to cost around $99 but will offer Radeon HD 4850-like performance.
The reason is pretty obvious as the RV740's price will be very close to that of the HD 4830. If the info about two versions of the RV740 is correct, HD 4830 is definitely a goner, as the RV740 with GDDR3 memory might even be cheaper than the original rumored US $99 price. The RV740 with GDDR5 memory is also close to the HD 4850 performance, at least according to that engineering sample that Guru3D had a chance to test.
