DigiTimes reports Compal has cut R&D resources for MIDs due to the uncertain business outlook of this segment.
Compal confirmed it has shifted a portion of its MID R&D manpower to work on netbooks, but stressed that it has not given up on MIDs, which it will continue to ship in small volumes.

Compal is one of the Intel's major partners in developing the MID segment, Compal manufactures the M528 MID for Gigabyte Technology and My PC Pocket MID for France-based telecom provider SFR.

In addition to Compal, Quanta Computer, Universal Scientific Industrial (USI), Asustek Computer, Micro-Star International (MSI) and Gigabyte are all conservative about MID's outlook for the future, according to industry sources.
