Imation has introduced the M-Class and S-Class solid state disks. The M-Class is available in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB in 2.5" and 3.5" form factors. These disks offer a sequential read speed of 150MB/s, sequential write speed of 90MB/s, 380 random write IOPS and 6,000 random read IOPS.

The more expensive S-class is also available in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB in 2.5" and 3.5" versions. These disks feature sequential read speeds of 130MB/s, sequential read speed of 120MB/s, 130 random write IOPS and 19,000 random read IOPS.
Because SSD drives don’t have motors or moving parts, a computer that uses SSD consumes less power and gives off less heat than a traditional Hard Disk Drive (HDD) system, making it better for the environment. In a related announcement, today Imation announced the availability of its M-Class and S-Class SSD drives and Upgrade Kits, offering progressive users a complete, easy way to upgrade an existing HDD computer to one that is SSD-based, without buying new hardware. Imation SSDs deliver faster and more reliable storage and retrieval with reduced heat and noise generation. The energy-efficient controller technology runs on about half the power needed to run an HDD, and less heat requires less energy to keep it cool.

Imation SSD drives are available in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB capacities for a starting MSRP of US $189.99 for M-Class and US $659.99 for S-Class. Imation SSD Upgrade Kits including a 64GB or 128GB SSD drive are available for a starting MSRP of US $299.99 for M-Class and US $1,299.99 for S-Class.
