Sun to port OpenSolaris to ARM platform

Sun Microsystems announced it has started porting its OpenSolaris operating system to ARM processors:
Sun Microsystems has started porting its OpenSolaris operating system on to ARM processor cores, targeting mobile, handheld and embedded applications, on the heels of being made available on Sparc processors targeting mainframes and servers.

Sun outlined its plans for the latest OpenSoalris version 2009.06 earlier this month. The company — which is in the midst of being acquired for $5.6 bn by Oracle — said late last year that OpenSolaris was supported on Intel's Atom processors.
