TG Daily reports GlobalFoundries believes it may one day surpass Intel's process technology. The company believes it may be able to close the gap with Intel partly because of partnerships, including the upcoming merger with Chartered Semiconductor, which will be taken over by Abu Dhabi investment vehicle ATIC.
The company has made no secret of its plans to compete fiercely with Taiwanese firm TSMC, currently the world's biggest pure play foundry. It has two fabs on the go right now - one in Dresden, Germany, and the other in Singapore. It will build a state of the art fab in New York State - work on that has already begun.

Macri said: "We [AMD] think that Global Foundries may surpass Intel's technology in the future because of the partnerships."
