Asustek Computer plans to develop an educational robot for kids called the EeeBot that uses software based on Google's Android mobile operating system as part of a project sponsored by the Taiwan government to promote Android.
The goal is to build an affordable robot able to interact with children, according to description of the project outlined on a government Web site. Asustek will work on hardware and software as part of the project. Google developed Android for smartphones, but other companies have tweaked the open source OS for an expanding list of products, including small laptop computers and home entertainment devices.
