Sony introduced the VAIO W21M2E Eco Edition, a new netbook based on the Intel Atom N450 processor. The 1.32kg system has a 10.1" LCD display with 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, it runs Windows 7 Starter and has 1GB RAM, 250GB HDD, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, and a Motion Eye webcam. It will start shipping next month.
The chic, colourful new VAIO W Series isn’t just slim, light and easy to use – it’s designed to minimise its environmental impact, too.

From web browsing and emailing to blogging and social networking, the new W Series makes a beautifully balanced partner for your everyday computing needs. It’s powered by the energy-efficient Intel® Atom™ processor family, with Genuine Windows® 7 Starter Edition for a more responsive, streamlined computing experience. 1GB of RAM is partnered with a 250GB hard disk drive to store your documents and personal media collection.

More energy efficient than traditional lamp technology, the VAIO Display (10.1”/ 25.6cm) with LED backlight contains no environmentally-harmful mercury.

Editing documents is a pleasure rather than a chore on the positive, accurate keyboard.

Apart from its good looks and ergonomic design, the new VAIO W Series lets you stay connected for longer. Up to 8.5 hours battery life gives you plenty of time to enjoy your digital life without hunting for a power socket.

New VAIO W Series Eco Edition
Available through selected VAIO retailers, a special Eco Edition is designed to be even more environmentally friendly – from the factory right to your home. Overall, it achieves a 10% reduction in CO2 emissions during production compared with previous W Series models. This is achieved through use of recycled plastics during manufacture.

Styled in a white finish, the VAIO W Series Eco Edition is distinguished by a mint green palm rest and distinctive patterned touch pad.

Like other new W Series models, power consumption is reduced by the Intel® Atom™ processor and VAIO display with LED backlight, which contributes to an Energy Star 5.0 certification.

Aside from its energy-efficient design, this very special VAIO dramatically reduces the overall carbon footprint of your personal computing needs. In common with all W Series models, nearly 80% of all plastic parts – including palm rest, top and bottom covers – are made from recycled materials. These comprise PC/ABS resin plus polycarbonates recovered from CD/DVD manufacturing.

The notebook is supplied with an electronic user manual that achieves approximately 35% reduction in printed user documentation compared with previous W Series.

What’s more, the W Series Eco Edition puts less strain on the planet when it’s being transported from the factory to your home. In a Sony first, the unit is supplied in an environmentally friendly and stylish PC carry bag in brown. This attractive bag with handle replaces the individual cardboard carton, reducing packaging material from factory to store and from store to home. Moreover, the bag’s outer fabric is manufactured using 100% recycled PET bottles. As an important step to cut the environmental cost of computing, Sony takes initiatives for a better environment through innovation.

The new VAIO W Series notebook computer by Sony is available from February 2010.
