Sony confirmed its PlayStation Portable will be launched on March 24th in North America, with a pricetag of $249.99.

The company plans to produce a million PSP units for the North American market by the end of its financial year, on March 31st. But it is not known how many of these will have been shipped to North America by its launch date.

Sony didn't announce the European launch date but Sony executives said that the company would like to launch the console before March 31st.

The price of the PSP is a little bit higher than expected but this is because Sony plans to sell the console as a Value Pack, featuring headphones with remote control, softcase and cleaning cloth, a sampler UMD disc with a few demos and a 32MB Memory Stick Duo.

The first million units sold will also feature a free UMD movie disc of Spider-Man 2.
