FUD Zilla claims AMD will have to stick with the 40nm process for its next-generation DirectX11 GPU. The first 28nm GPUs may follow in the second half of 2011.
Since ATI’s next generation card codenamed Hecatoncheires, which is the successor of the 5xx0 series, should launch this year, our sources are very confident that we are talking about yet another 40nm part. The 40nm process doesn’t look like the best possible solution, but graphics guys obviously don’t have much choice.

ATI’s next generation Hecatoncheires card will have the hard job of fighting Fermi and Fermi 2, and from what we hear Fermi should be just a beginning while the second generation should bring even more performance into the game.
