Market watchers estimate Acer will need a growth of more than 40 percent this year if it wants to surpass HP in terms of global notebook shipments. The analysts believe Fujitsu's notebook business may be a takeover candidate for Acer, as acquiring this division would give Acer a strong sales boost.
Acer shipped about 31 million notebooks in 2009, up 32% on year for an 18% market share, while HP shipped about 37 million units. In 2010, with HP's estimated shipments of 42-45 million units, Acer will to achieve an up to 45.2% growth to become the number one vendor.

Market watchers believe Japan-based Fujitsu's notebook business will be the best target since the company has strong sales in both Western Europe and Japan and would help boost Acer's shipments in 2010 if it acquired the division. Fujitsu shipped about three million notebooks in 2009.
