Asustek subsidiary striving for AMD southbridge design orders

Industry sources claim IC design ASMedia Technology, a subsidiary of Asustek Computer, is trying to get AMD southbridge design orders.
The sources believe that Asustek is mainly aiming to expand ASMedia's client base, and expect the deal to help boost market demand for the company's AMD-based motherboards with the addition of ASMedia exclusive technologies.

The deal could also give Asustek more bargaining power with Intel, the sources noted.

AMD is said to be evaluating the deal as it may impact the company's chipset business as well as affect the company's own research team; however, if AMD agrees to establish a partnership with ASMedia, Asustek is expected to increase its shipments proportion of AMD motherboards which would directly benefit AMD's chipset shipments, the sources analyzed.
