Nintendo informed the press that it will show off its next-generation DS handheld console at the E3 show, which is scheduled for June 15-17, 2010 in Los Angeles. The company didn't reveal a lot of details, except that gamers will be able to enjoy 3D games without having to use special glasses and that the device will be backward compatible with current devices. Nintendo refers to the new DS as the "Nintendo 3DS", but this is just a temporary name, the retail product may carry a different name.
"Nintendo 3DS" (temp) is going to be the new portable game machine to succeed "Nintendo DS series", whose cumulative consolidated sales from Nintendo amounted to 125 million units as of the end of December 2009, and will include backward compatibility so that the software for Nintendo DS series, including the ones for Nintendo DSi, can also be enjoyed.
