TSMC first quarter revenue up 133.4 percent

TSMC saw its first quarter revenue soar 133 percent to NT$92.19 billion (US$2.9 billion), while net income rose by more than 2,000 percent to NT$33.66 billion (US$1.1 billion).
Year-over-year, first quarter revenue increased 133.4 percent, while net income increased by more than 2,000 percent, TSMC (Hsinchu, Taiwan) said. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2009, first quarter 2010 results represent a slights increase in revenue and a 3.1 percent increase in net income, TSMC said.

TSMC saw an increase in first quarter wafer shipments compared with the previous quarter, the company said, contrary to its normal seasonal pattern. Wafer sales from consumer and communication related applications grew while wafer sales from computer related applications declined slightly, the company said.
