IDC and Gartner differ on Q1 2010 notebook leader

DigiTimes notes market research firms IDC and Gartner have reported a different result of who was the largest notebook shipper in the first quarter of this year. According to IDC it was HP with 9.5 million units, with Acer arriving on the second spot with 8.65 million units, while Gartner believes Acer hit 9.5 million units with HP trailing closely behind with shipments of 9.47 million units. Quite a big difference between both firm's estimates!
The sources cited IDC's latest figures saying that Acer shipped 8.65 million notebooks globally in the first quarter of 2010, next only to Hewlett-Packard (HP) with 9.5 million units.

However, and a Chinese-language Apply Daily report cited Gartner's latest figures indicating that Acer shipped 9.5 million notebooks in the first quarter of 2010 with HP trailing closely behind with shipments of 9.47 million units.

HP had a sequential shipment drop of 16.3% in the first quarter of 2010 with Acer only 0.3%, the paper added.
