Nokia N-series phones to use MeeGo

Posted on Sunday, June 27 2010 @ 12:10:02 CEST by

Nokia said the N-8 will be the last N-series phone to use the Symbian operating system, as future N-series smartphones will adopt MeeGo.
Apparently Nokia thinks that MeeGo software would provide a better chance to battle against their rivals Apple and Google. The N-series had been dominating the market before Apple's iPhone was brought into the market. Nokia and Intel have been giving details about how they will produce MeeGo, by merging Nokia's Linux Maemo software platform with Intel's Moblin.

According to Ben Wood, Research Director at British consultancy CCS Insight told Silicon India that the MeeGo plans mean that Nokia is “betting the ranch” on this platform to beat high-end rivals. Nokia has seen other versions of Linux such as Google's Android operator-backed LiMo and Palm's webOS steal a large share in the mobile market.
