Posted on Wednesday, July 28 2010 @ 21:38:35 CEST by

DigiTimes writes Acer is getting close to beating HP in the laptop market in terms of unit shipments:
Acer shipped 8.1 million notebooks in the second quarter globally, the second largest next to Hewlett-Packard (HP) with 8.51 million units, while Asustek Computer ranked sixth with 3.93 million units, industry sources have cited IDC statistics as indicating.

However, among the global top-10 brands, only Lenovo and Apple managed to maintain sequential shipment growth in the second quarter.

The number-one HP had a sequential shipment drop of 10.9%, with Acer, at the number two, 5.8%. Dell, the number three, had a sequential drop of 3.3% and shipped 5.52 million notebooks.
