Nintendo Wii sales continue to plunge

Research figures from NPD Group indicate Nintendo's Wii console has lost most of its glitter in the US.
NPD, which tracks sales numbers in the US, said that in August only 244,300 Wii units were sold. That puts it far behind the Xbox 360 and in very close territory with the PS3.

It's right in the middle of the pack, which doesn't sound terrible. But there was a time when Wii sales were more than the Xbox 360 and the PS3 combined, times two. For the Wii to almost not even sell as many units as the PS3 shows an extreme decline in momentum.

The full numbers were as follows:

Xbox 360 – 356,700
DS -342,700
Wii – 244,300
PS3 -226,000
PSP – 79,400
