Canaccord Genuity technology analyst Bobby Burleson believes Intel quietly lowered the OEM prices of its microprocessors and chipsets to stimulate demand, clear inventory and offset effects of the iPad:
“Our checks indicate microprocessor price reductions were especially steep, with i3, i5, i7, and Atom discounted by 50 percent in addition to a roughly 15 percent decrease for certain chipsets,'' he said in the report.

''In all, platform costs have been reduced by 20 percent in a coordinated effort to stimulate channel fill at retailers ahead of the Golden Week and autumn holidays in China,” he added.
