Hitachi-LG Data Storage (HLDS) will show off a SSD/ODD combo drive at the CEATEC 2010 expo in Japan (October 5-9). This slim Blu-ray burner is designed for compact computer systems, it uses the SATA 6Gbps interface and the ODD it also features up to 256GB of 25nm flash memory storage from Micron.
"We are very excited about the potential of this ground-breaking product. Once Hybrid Drive is loaded in all PC products including AIO, Mini PC, and Notebook, a new solution will be provided for user classes who were previously unsure of purchasing SSD. And Hybrid Drive also enables a smaller PC foot print (under 12" tablet PCs such as the Ultra Mobile PC, for example) by removing the HDD or SSD from the motherboard and just having Hybrid Drive with SSD as its primary storage" stated HLDS Chief Marketing Officer YK Park.

The first-gen Hybrid Drive is shipping this month within MONEUAL's line of family PCs, while the 2nd gen model (or models, since a USB 3.0 version should be coming too) will ship in Q1 2011.
