StatCounter: Internet Explorer marketshare now below 50 percent

Metrics firm StatCounter reports IE's global marketshare plunged to 49.9 percent last compared, compared to 58.4 percent a year ago. Firefox is still the second most popular browser with a marketshare of 31.5 percent, but Google's Chrome is rising fast as the browser now commands 11.5 percent of the market. Opera and Safari each captured less than 5 percent.
