Intel will take on ARM with the Oak Trail platform and according to FUD Zilla these new chips will start shipping in early 2011.
Oak Trail is Intal's first platform geared specifically towards the tablet market and it should take on ARM based chips, such as Apple's A4, which powers the iPad.

Earlier Intel chips such as the Atom simply weren't capable of delivering acceptable power consumption figures and were thus seldom used in tablets. However, Intel Marketing Director Anil Nanduri told Reuters that Oak Trail will be competitive in terms of idle power usage. He stressed that the panel was the most power hungry component in a tablet, not the processor.
