Fujitsu plans to launch 2.5-inch notebook HDDs with a storage capacity of 200GB in the first half of 2007. The hard disks will use two disk platters that store up to 100GB each and will use perpendicular recording too reach higher storage densities.

Currently Fujitsu's biggest 2.5" HDD is a 120GB model. Perpendicular recording will allow areal densities of 150GB per square inch for normal drives and 105GB per square inch for notebook drives, according to Fujitsu.
