Reuters reports Lenovo and NEC are in the final stages of talks for a joint-venture in the PC market. NEC has a marketshare of about 18 percent in Japan but controls under 1 percent of the global PC market, while Lenovo has a marketshare of 27 percent in China and a global marketshare of around 8 percent.
Lenovo may take a majority stake in NEC Personal Products Ltd, a wholly owned NEC unit, that makes and sells personal computers, the daily reported.

The companies aim to boost their competitiveness through economies of scale by combining development, production, materials procurement and hope to catch up with global giants like Hewlett-Packard Co, the paper said.
