DigiTimes reports MSI aims to increase its notebook shipments by 10-15 percent this year, up from 2.8 million units in 2010. Now that the netbook market has toppled over its apex, MSI will reportedly switch its focus back to traditional notebooks. Last year sales of netbooks accounted for only 15 percent of MSI's notebook sales, the article mentions this is a lot lower than previous years but doesn't provide exact figures.
Within MSI's 2010 notebooks shipments, shipments of netbooks only accounted for about 15% and reached 420,000 units, a significant drop compared to previous years; however, since MSI internally believes that netbook gross margins will continue to drop in the future and strong shipments will not profit the company much, the company has already switched its focus back to traditional notebook business, the market watchers added.
