Engadget reports the FCC is calling out against the use of cell phone jammers due to health and safety risks, as these device interfere with 911 calls and other emergencies in the vicinity. The commission says the use of jamming equipment is prohibited by federal law and urges people to report offenders at their website.
These GPS and signal jammers are particularly popular amongst theaters, quiet restaurants and in many school systems fighting the good fight against sexting during class. The FCC is calling on folks to stop and to report their neighbors for using these devices -- reason being that they pose serious health and safety risks by interfering with 911 calls and other emergencies in the vicinity.
