Japan quake: Acer foresees little impact on supply chain

Acer announced it doesn't expect that the devastating earthquake in Japan will bring a substantial impact on the company's supply chain. Supply of SSDs may be impacted, but the penetration of these storage devices is still very low.
The impact on its procurement of LCD panels, optical disc drives (ODDs), hard disk drives (HDDs) and other key components is limited, Acer estimated. For panels, Acer's suppliers are mainly South Korea-based makers and Taiwan-based AU Optronics (AUO) and Chimei Innolux (CMI), with Japan-based makers accounting for only a small portion of total procurement volume, Acer said.

The global supply of SSDs (solid-state drives) may be influenced by the earthquake, but SSD penetration of notebooks is very low, according to industry sources.
