Acer to launch $699-799 ultrabooks in 2012

DigiTimes heard Acer plans to release ultrabook models with prices ranging from $699 to $799 in 2012 to boost demand for these new ultra-thin laptops.

The speculation comes after Acer president Jim Wong said recently that Acer's ultrabook prices will drop to US$799-899 in the second quarter of 2012 and to US$499 in 2013.

Acer chairman JT Wang has also said that the market for ultrabooks is gaining momentum, and shipments of ultrabook models are expected to expand significantly when the prices of ultrabooks go down to US$699.
