Acer and Asus to decrease number of notebooks in 2012

DigiTimes heard rumors that both Acer and Asustek will decrease the number of notebooks and netbooks to be developed for sale in 2012 to reduce inventory risks.
Seeing that Apple's minimalist-style strategy for notebooks has achieved great success in the consumer market, the brand vendors have decided raising their brand power is the major goal for 2012 and will gradually reduce the number of models developed to help save costs.

Asustek currently has at least 50 notebook/netbook projects available and with ultrabooks expected to become the mainstream models in the notebook market in the next three years, Asustek already plans to simplify its open notebook projects for 2012 with the number of Eee PC models to be reduced from more than 10 to a maximum of five, which will be divided by entry-level, mid-range and high-end designs. The number of models may be reduced even further in the second half of 2012.
