DigiTimes reports Samsung's in-house development of Exynos, an ARM-based SoC, spells bad news for Qualcomm, Texas Instruments and NVIDIA:
Samsung Electronics' in-house development of an ARM-architecture processor, Exynos, for use in its Galaxy S III smartphone signals Samsung's stepping into development of ARM processors for use in smartphones and tablet PCs, and the situation is expected to decrease Samsung's orders to Qualcomm and pose a competitive threat to Texas Instruments and Nvidia, according to industry sources.

Although Samsung will adopt only a small volume of its in-house developed processor in its new smartphone initially, since the processor will be a closed platform similar to Apple's, Samsung's strategy is expected to further heat up competition among ARM-based processors.
