According to data compiled by Greenpeace, Apple is among the dirtiest firms in the IT industry. Listed below is the estimated percentage of how much of each company's overall energy is derived from coal:
1. Apple: 55.1 percent
2. HP: 49.7 percent
3. IBM: 49.5 percent
4. Oracle: 48.7 percent
5. Facebook: 39.4 percent
6. Microsoft 39.3 percent
7. Twitter: 35.6 percent
8. Amazon: 33.9 percent
9. Rackspace: 31.6 percent
10. Google: 28.7 percent
12. Dell: 20.1 percent
Full details at Mother Jones. Apple on the other hand disputes the report, claiming its new iCloud data center will be its greenest datacenter yet and that Greenpace wildly over-estimated its energy demand:
But Apple said its new iCloud data centre would be the greenest ever built, and that Greenpeace had wildly over-estimated its energy demand. The new facility would use just one-fifth of the electricity estimated by Greenpeace, the company said. It would eventually draw 60% of its on-site power from renewable sources.

"Our data centre in North Carolina will draw about 20 megawatts at full capacity," an Apple spokeswoman said. "We believe this industry-leading project will make Maiden the greenest data centre ever built."
