Chinese net portal NetEase (via Kotaku) claims the Apple device will launch in the third quarter of 2012 to "counter attack" the upcoming Windows tablets.
The site suggests it'll cost between $249 and $299 (£156 and £187), and that Apple is readying an initial batch of six million units for launch.
According to T3, Apple's bitter tech rival Samsung said recently that it expects the US firm to release iPad Mini around the same time as the expected third quarter iPhone 5 launch.
