Taiwanese supply chain makers told DigiTimes that HP is getting more optimistic about ultrabooks and will launch 5-7 models in the second half of 2012. Shipments are anticipated to hit between 3.7-5.5 million units for the year.
HP will start launching its new ultrabooks later in April with shipments in the second quarter expected to double from those in the first. Compared to HP, which just recently turned to pushing ultrabooks, Acer has been planning for a while and is expected to ship 4.5-6 million units in 2012.

Acer is set to launch four ultrabooks in the second quarter: the second-generation S3, S5, Timeline Ultra 14 and 15. Acer is expected to have shipped 250,000-300,000 ultrabooks in the first quarter with the number to increase to 500,000-700,000 units in the second.
