Microsoft to launch Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 update in August

Microsoft plans to release an update for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 in August. The update is currently in Beta 2 stage and the first release candidate is expected by the end of July.

It is said that the update will include support for the upcoming Xbox 360 console and also the following things:
  • Native digital cable
  • Content Protection
  • Improve burning (DRM, network, High-definition, DVD-RAM)
  • MCX on WinCE clients (Babylon, TV2 as stretch goal)
  • Playback reliability
  • Running 3rd party apps out of proc
  • Address top usability issues
  • Platform Security
  • Additional languages and locales
  • An update for English, French, German, Korean and Japanese versions of the operating system will is expected to hit manufacturers on August 12. The Dutch, Italian and Simplified Chinese version is expected two weeks later.
