eBook reader sales down 63.1 percent year-over-year

DigiTimes Research estimates 1.53 million eBook readers shipped in Q2 2012. The number represents a rise of 5.5 percent versus Q1 2012, but is 63.1 percent lower than the year before. The next quarters are anticipated to be better though:
As the fifth-generation Kindle and third-generation Kobo will be launched in the second half of 2012, global shipments of e-book readers will increase to 2.7 million units in the third quarter and 4.97 million in the fourth. As a result, the global shipment volume of e-book readers in 2012 will reach 10.65 million units, with Amazon to share 64%, Kobo and Barnes & Noble 11% each and Sony 5%.
