The long-awaited remake of Half-Life is now available for download at Black Mesa. The project has been under development for eight years by 40 enthusiasts, it uses the Source engine and promises to create a more engrossing in-game world with more varied, complex environments and more challenging, realistic gameplay.

Black Mesa offers improved textures, physics, new models, new voice acting, and a new soundtrack. This free game has been built from the ground up, the creators explain on their site that it's not simply a port of all Half-Life maps and models into the Source engine.

Version 1.0 is released today, it features the full Half-Life game up to the Lambda Core level. The alien Xen levels aren't complete yet, these levels will be added at a later date.
