IBM has presented the long anticipated PowerPC 970MP processors at the Power Everywhere Forum 2005 conference in Japan.

The dual-core PowerPC 970MP processor line is available with clock speeds ranging from 1.4GHz to 2.5GHz. Each core has 1MB L2 cache and one core can be switched off to save power.

IBM will also launch low-power 970FX processors:
  • 1.2GHz: 13W
  • 1.4GHz: 13W
  • 1.6GHz: 16W
  • Despite Apple's switch to Intel's x86 processors it is expected that by the end of this year at least one or two PowerMacs with the new PowerPC 970MP processors will appear on the market.
