DigiTimes had a chat with AMD vice president and Embedded Solutions manager Arun Iyengar and learned that the company is seeking to significantly expand its embedded solutions. This year, AMD is expected to raise the contribution of its embedded products to its revenue from 5 percent to 20 percent. The company doesn't go into the details about how it will achieve this, but it's likely that design wins for Microsoft's and Sony's next-gen consoles have a lot to do with this.
Iyengar pointed out that although it takes 36-60 months of development time for AMD to obtain orders for embedded solutions from a new client, shipments usually last for 5-7 years, allowing the company to receive stable income. Therefore, cooperation with clients and establishment of long-term relationships are important for in the embedded industry.
