DigiTimes heard ARM is considering to help level the playing field by providing complete platform solutions to second-tier ARM IC design houses. The goal of this move is to help these firms catch up with first-tier vendors like Qualcomm and NVIDIA.
ARM is reportedly considering plans to provide complete platform solutions to help second-tier ARM-architecture IC design houses, mainly Taiwan-based MediaTek and China-based Allwinner Technology and Fuzhou Rockchip Electronics, catch up with first-tier vendors, mainly Qualcomm and Nvidia, in 2014 when ARM launches ARMv8 architecture, according to Taiwan-based chipmakers.

Since ARM wishes to further expand into the IT market, the company plans to assist its second-tier partners through providing complete platform solutions to accelerate their R&D processes and reduce time to market.

With the strategy helping to enlarge ARM's overall market share, it would also allow the company to better defend against its competitors, the sources noted.
