DigiTimes reports shipments of the global top 5 notebook brands saw a decline of over 20 percent in April, and that all Taiwanese notebook ODMs suffered double-digit percentage drops in April shipments.
Global top-5 notebook brands together suffered a more than 20% on-month shipment drop in April, while top-3 ODMs together had a drop of 14% due to most brand vendors having started to prepare for their next-generation models and some had excess inventory from March, according to Digitimes Research's latest figures.

Among top-tier brands, Hewlett-Packard (HP), Acer and Lenovo saw steeper shipment drops than others in the month, all surpassing 20%, while the rest also underperformed. This may cause global notebook shipments in the second quarter to see an on-year drop of more than 15%, but a sequential increase of 3%, the Digitimes Research figures show.
