Outcast to get a remake or a sequel?

News hit the wire that Appeal founders Yann Robert, Franck Sauer, and Yves Grolet have recovered the rights to the open-world adventure game Outcast from Atari Europe SAS. Appeal plans to bring the Outcast franchise, but it's unclear at this point whether the company plans to develop a remake of the game or a sequel.

The original Outcast was published in 1999 and was well ahead of its time, the third-person action-adventure game featured revolutionary graphics, as well as a unique open-world environment and excellent AI. Although the game received several game of the year awards, it also suffered from many bugs, and had severe performance issues.
