Surging international demand and price wars drove PC shipments to their highest quarterly growth rate in nearly five years, according to IDC. The research firm claims shipments of PCs rose 16.6 percent during the second quarter.
Market leader Dell boosted its growth with 23.7 percent and No. 2 PC maker HP settled a 16.3 percent growth.
IDC said the 16.6 percent gain compared with the same quarter a year ago was the fastest growth rate since PC shipments posted an 18.9 percent year-over-year increase in the third quarter of 2000.
