This month's edition of Patch Tuesday will be relatively mild, Microsoft will publish four security updates rated as "important". One update will tackle a security vulnerability in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, while the other patches will fix issues with Windows 7, SharePoint, Microsoft Word and other programs. For the first time in several months, Patch Tuesday does not include an update for IE.
Besides the four security bulletins, Microsoft is expected to use "Patch Tuesday" to release some more software updates, including new firmware for its Surface tablets. Microsoft pulled the December Surface Pro 2 firmware from circulation a few weeks ago after some owners of the tablet said they had installation and battery issues.
