Neowin received word that Windows 8.1 Update 2 is getting close to release and may hit release-to-manufacturing (RTM) phase in July, which means the official launch will likely follow in August or September. The new update is expected to feature more enhancements for desktop users but will not reintroduce the Start Menu, that feature is reserved for a future update.
The next update to Windows - which may be called Windows 8.2 or Windows 8.1 Update 2 - is getting close to release. Previous rumors suggested an RTM of July and that is what we are still hearing as well, which points to a likely release in August or September. A post in our forum said that the download would be 3GB, we wouldn't put too much weight into that, given that the information comes via a post on another forum, relayed by a user who said he heard it from a Microsoft tech support assistant.
The site also mentions that Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1 is nearing the end of internal testing and should be released later this year. Windows 9 is also progressing as planned, this operating system is expected next year.
