DigiTimes reports AMD and ASUS are strengthening their partnership. The site heard rumors that ASUS will increase the share of AMD processors in its desktop products and that AMD will be offering special CPU discounts to ASUS. DigiTimes also notes that AMD is rumored to use the "Zen" name for its next-generation APU platform, which is expected in 2016.
The sources believe AMD is trying to expand its desktop APU sales through cooperation with Asustek and is looking to boost its overall market share to over 30%. However, the two players' tight relationship may cause AMD's other partners such as Gigabyte Technology, Micro-Star International (MSI), ASRock, Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) and Biostar to reduce their AMD-based projects.
