ThermalRight shows off its new HR-02 Macho Zero, an updated version of the original Macho with some tweaks to improve fanless cooling. Measuring 140mm x 102mm x 162mm (L x W x H), this tower cooler weighs 750g. It features a Black Nickel Design and has a copper base, six 6mm diameter heatpipes and a large aluminium fin array.

While designed to be used passively, the heatsink can be used in combination with two 120mm or 140mm (with 120mm mounting holes) fans. The cooler comes with fan clips as well as with fan ducts for "semi-passive operation" via your case's rear fan.
Since its release in the summer of 2011 the Macho is the first choice for users who are looking for a high-performance and low-noise CPU-cooler.

The design of the heat sink, which has been optimized for silent operation, is based on year-long experience and extensive development by the Thermalright engineers. A variety of copies, which are now offered under different brand names, proofs the ingenuity of the Thermalright design.

Based on the concept of the HR-22, we now present with the Macho Zero a Limited Edition of the popular cooler which has been specifically optimized for ultra-silent operation.

The Macho Zero is presented in a stylish "Black Nickel Design" and thus visually stands out from the “grey” average of CPU-coolers. The copper heatpipes and the mounting materials are black nickel plated as well and offer in conjunction with the black anodized top fin a very unique look.

In this version the cooler comes with a full set of mounting materials, yet no fan is included. This corresponds to the desire of many users for an individual configurability; accordingly, the Macho Zero can be used in a variety of ways:

Passive Mode:
For passive cooling of your CPU, the large heat sink of the Macho Zero can be used without additional accessory. Please make sure that your system design offers suitable ventilation and a sufficient cooling capacity. The passive mode is in general not recommended for powerful/overclocked or extremely compact systems with limited space and air flow.

Semi-Passive Mode:
The heat sink can be equipped with a Thermalright Fan Duct. The fan ducts are optionally available in two versions - either for 120 mm or for 140 mm case fans. The use of a fan duct allows the semi-passive operation, in which the (usually available) rear case fan is solely responsible for the air flow through the heat sink. An additional fan for the heat sink is not needed in this case.

Active Mode:
With the included fan clips (black anodized) the cooler can be operated actively in combination with a 120 mm fan or a 140 mm model with 120 mm mounting holes. We recommend the combination with a Thermalright 140 mm fan (TY 147, TY 141…), which were developed especially for the Macho heat sink. We can guarantee a more than sufficient cooling capacity for your system when using a PWM-controlled Thermalright fan.

The aluminum cooling fins are perforated by a plurality of air holes, which counteract air accumulation between the cooling fins. The special design of the heatsink’s aluminum fins allows for a particularly low air resistance. The oval air duct in the middle of the cooler provides controlled air turbulence within the heat sink, whereby the heat can be dissipated more effectively.

The heat sink is aligned to the rear of the PC case, which ensures that even when using ram modules with high-rising heat spreaders no incompatibilities will arise despite the impressive dimensions of the heat sink.

As with all our high performance coolers the Macho Zero makes use of the well-proven heat pipe technology. A total of six high-performance 6 mm heatpipes provide the most efficient dissipation of the generated processor heat. The heatpipes are tightly integrated into the nickel-plated copper base plate, which guarantees the most effective heat dissipation.

A special feature of the Macho Zero is the redesigned base plate. Just like with the “IB-E” flagships Silver Arrow and Archon X2, the Macho Zero uses a distinctly larger cooler base (53 x 40 mm). Thanks to this innovation – which is usually only used in the high-end models – the cooling capacity could be further improved, which means the Macho Zero is perfectly suited to work with the new Intel Core i7 high-performance CPUs with up to 8 cores.

A universal mounting kit is included with the Macho Zero that supports all actual Intel- and AMD sockets (Intel LGA775/1366/1156/1155/2011/1150/2011-3 und AMD AM2/AM2+/AM3/FM1/FM2/FM2+).

Also included in the package is our Thermalright Screwdriver. With this extra-long screwdriver, which has a magnetic tip, it is very easy to install the cooler, even if the motherboard has already been mounted in the case. The equipment is completed by the excellent Thermalright Chill Factor 3 thermal paste (syringe) as well as a pair of white cotton gloves. .

The Macho Zero gives you the opportunity to create your individual vision for the ideal cooling of your PC. Please note that to ensure a sufficient cooling capacity is your responsibility and we cannot be held liable for any damages arising from an incorrect configuration.
