Cooler Master announced a partnership with Sorama, a Dutch sound imaging technology company, to research methods to make its products more silent:
Cooler Master, a renowned developer of cases, power supplies, cooling
and peripherals for computers, has entered into a partnership with the
Dutch company Sorama to make their products even quieter. In this
collaboration the unique Sorama Sound Imaging technology is used,
resulting in new insights in the sound design of their products.
Next to styling, “sound design” is taking an increasingly important role in
the development of products. Components like fans often produce
annoying noise, also - according to a study of the WHO (World Health
Organization) - the consequence of prolonged exposure to sound pollution is potentially harmful to
humans. Sound pollution is number two on the list of most harmful environmental factors to human
health.
Cooler Master chooses to make their products even quieter by working with Sorama’s sound camera, a
kind of thermal camera for sound. Sorama's solutions provide unmatched precision, ease of use and
accessibility. As a result, Cooler Master obtains unprecedented insights into sound and vibration
characteristics of their products, allowing them to further improve and validate their designs. Initial
measurements have already been performed, showing the sound characteristics of two power supply
fans. Subsequently the entire computer including casing is analysed. Based on these insights
improvements for the next generation of products were proposed.
Sorama is a Dutch company based in Eindhoven that provides insights into sound and vibrations with
their Sound cameras. The online processing via the Sorama cloud Portal allows for optimal ease of use
and technical support. The different types of Sound cameras are obtainable for virtually any company
due to the pay-per-use model. By using Sorama sound cameras, insight in sound is within easy reach to
any technical designer.
