OnLive cloud gaming service rests in pieces as Sony picks up the patents

Posted on Monday, April 06 2015 @ 13:47:48 CEST by

After some previous financial issues cloud gaming service OnLive now officially shuts it doors. The company announced late last week that it had sold most of its assets to Sony and that the service will be discontinued after the end of this month. Sony bought the firm's patents and will be using these to enhance its PlayStation Now service.

No further subscription fees will be charged and if you bought an OnLive Game System, or OnLive Universal Wireless Controller on or after February 1, 2015 you are entitled to a refund. The firm claims anyone eligible for a refund has been notified via e-mail.
It is with great sadness that we must bring the OnLive Desktop service to a close. Sony is acquiring important parts of OnLive, and their plans don't include a continuation of the Desktop service. Your service should continue uninterrupted until April 30, 2015. No further subscription fees will be charged, and you can continue to use the service until that date.

After April 30, 2015, our data centers will shut down and the service will be offline. All accounts will be closed, and all files you may have stored in OnLive Files, and credit card data will be deleted. We recommend that you back up any stored data as soon as possible. No refunds will be available for any subscriptions.

We will have extremely limited coverage for customer service over the next 30 days. We hope the FAQs below will answer all of your questions. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being an OnLive Desktop customer, and we wish you all the best.
