Western Digital announced it's simplifying its consumer HDD lineup around two series: the Blue and Black lineup. This means the Green series will disappear, WD sales manager Barber Brinkman confirmed to Tweakers that the Green lineup will be merged with the Blue lineup.

The reason for the change is the declining volume of HDD sales, caused by the shrinking PC market and the shift of demand towards SSDs. The Green lineup focuses on energy efficiency and quiet operation.

The Green HDDs in the EZRX series will be available until the end of November. In October, WD will release more information and a media campaign to announce the change.

After the change goes into effect, WD's Blue lineup will feature four distinct lines. You will have 3.5" models that spin at 5400RPM or 7200RPM, as well as 2.5" disks that spin at 5400RPM or 7200RPM.
