DigiTimes writes Asustek's efforts to break into the gaming laptop market have paid off dividends. In the first half of this year, ASUS was the largest gaming laptop maker in the world and acquired a marketshare of around 40 percent. More and more players are entering this market because it's a growing sub-segment with attractive margins, but the increased competition is resulting in profit drops for most players.
Following Asustek, Lenovo was the second largest with a shipment share of 30%, mainly relying on demand from China, the sources said. Micro-Star International (MSI) and Acer were number three and four, respectively, with their shipment shares ranging from 11-15% and they are mainly selling their gaming notebooks to Europe.
