TweakTown had the opportunity to take an exclusive photo of a working prototype of a 3D XPoint DDR4 DIMM at Storage Visions 2016. This new memory can be used as system memory and as system storage, and Intel revealed today that 3D XPoint will make it possible to use up to 6TB of memory on a dual-CPU workstation.
Intel/Micron's phase change persistent memory technology known as 3D XPoint is undoubtedly the hottest storage technology on the horizon. Intel and Micron envision 3D XPoint causing a revolution not in just storage, but computing as a whole.

3D XPoint will have many storage applications, the most powerful and compelling of which is coming in the form of persistent addressable system memory. Designed to run on the system memory bus, Intel's 3D X-Point DIMM technology moves more data closer to the CPU.
